| Firo Cuello Baez is a pastor with deep compassion for hurting people. He worked for a number of years with Compassion International and then, moved by the desperate needs in the community of Villa Esfuerso, started a church and Christian school. He wanted to bring hope into the lives of people who are living in tiny houses with several generations in each home and knew they needed a church and a place to educate their children. Many of the children have no birth certificates, a serious problem for them when it comes time to attend the University. Trying to get a judge to assist him with this problem has been a major project for Firo. His has a difficult job, ministering to people who live in what we would call “inner city”. High unemployment rates, serious lack of educational opportunities, untreated illnesses and a void of Christian truth and light make this a challenging place to minister. It takes its toll physically and emotionally on Firo. Today, his ministry is blessed to have a large three story school building with a sanctuary. The school houses a water project which provides clean, pure water for the community, as well. |
